What to do in case of fire?

Before:

• Know which are the seasons of greater fire risks and the adjoining areas near your home; as well as the communication channels and alternative roads.
• Put out matches and cigarettes and do not throw them out the car window.
• If necessary only turn on fire in authorized places which are conditioned for it.
• Have special care in turning it off making sure that there is no ember left that could revive it.
• In case of meteorological conditions that favor the spreading of fires, one should refrain from lighting fire in the countryside for any purpose.

During:

• In case you notice a forest fire or a smoke column in the mountain, rapidly inform the authorities, especially if it is near a community.
• Keep away for the fire lateral zones and zones of less vegetation.
• Remember that a change in the direction of the wind can make the fire surround you. Therefore, always go in a direction opposite to the wind.
• Try not to go near ravine or hollows, or try to escape towards the hillside when the fire rises there.

After:

• Do not try to return to the affected areas until the authorities determine that there is no longer danger.
• Many fires re-appear hours after they have being put out.
