What to do in case of an Earthquake?

Before:

• Think about how you and your family would react; review in great detail all the possible risks that could exist in your home and at work.
• Review, control and reinforce the condition of the installations that can be broken (electric wires, water conduction, gas, etc.).
• Teach your family how to turn off the power, water and gas supply.
• Secure the conductions to the floor and the gas pumps, and big and heavy objects.
• Have special care with the location of toxic or flammable products, in order to avoid escapes or leaks.

During:

• Stay away from windows, crystals, paintings, chimneys and objects that can fall. • Try to protect yourself under the door frames or some type of solid furniture, such as tables, desks, etc. • If you are in a high building do not rush to the exits, because the stairs can be congested with people. • Do not use the elevators; the motor force could be interrupted. • If you are in the outing, stay away from high buildings, electric posts and other objects that could fall on you. • Go to an open area. • If you are driving, stop and stay inside the vehicle. Take precaution of staying away from bridges, electric posts, damage buildings or landslides.

After:

• Do not try to inappropriate move the wounded persons who have fractures, unless there is danger of fire, flood, etc.
• Do not light matches, lighters or open flame artifacts, foreseen that there could be gas escapes.
• Urgently clean medicines, paints and other dangerous materials spills.
• Do not walk where there are broken glasses, electric wires, and do not touch metallic objects that are in contact with the cables.
• Do not drink water from open containers without examining the same and have it passed through the corresponding filters.
• Keep up date of the vaccination of all the members of your family.
• Respond to the help calls from the authorities.
• Contact the aid team and provide the necessary information.
